FREE Alphabet Posters for the Classroom

We know how important displaying the alphabet is in every elementary classroom. It seems to be the most referenced instructional aide used by students – especially by those who are beginning their journey into reading and writing independently. With this in mind, we re-vamped our traditional alphabet display and made alphabet posters that students actually help create. Letters and their sounds are far more likely to “stick” when your students make these posters! Are you ready to make your alphabet poster display more meaningful this year?

FREE student created alphabet posters.

What You’ll Need

  • alphabet letter pages
  • crayons
  • markers
  • optional: scissors and colored paper

Student Activity

The first step is very simple: just print the alphabet pages. Depending on your number of students, give one or two pages to each child and instruct them to trace the letters. This makes for great printing practice! Then, your students will color the pictures that correspond to each letter. We’ve decided to only focus on two large pictures for each letter, which allows the students to really take their time and color each picture as neatly as possible. When the pages are completed, you can have each child present their letter(s) to the class!

Displaying the Alphabet Posters

These posters look great when displayed all together in an area of your classroom that students can easily see and reference. Keep in mind that displaying these posters at students’ eye level is strongly recommended for optimal visibility! Many times, we walk into a classroom and see the alphabet displayed way up high at almost ceiling level, where it is easily dismissed or forgotten. Another quick tip is to trim the the border of each page and back it onto colorful paper. We love the way they look backed onto neon paper, but feel free to use any colors that match your current classroom environment!

Tip: Another great way to use these sheets is to create an alphabet book! Students will complete the pages as you introduce each letter. Save them in a folder and staple or bind the book together once it’s complete.
