FREE Telling Time to the Hour Pumpkin Math Center

Telling time is tricky business, especially for kids. As a parent or teacher, you can make learning how to tell time to the hour a fun activity with this interactive center that is perfect for the Fall season! Before getting started, it is helpful to introduce the basic concept of time and clocks. Make sure that your little learner understands how there are 24 hours in day and knows how to count and skip count to 60 to make this activity a success! We’ve linked one of our favorite books that we use to introduce this concept below. It’s a fun and simple to understand read for any child who is just starting out using both analog and digital clocks!

Getting Started

You don’t need much to set up this math center… just the following!

  • pumpkin time puzzle pieces
  • scissors
  • 2 small containers
  • optional: laminator

Print and cut out the puzzle pieces, place the digital pieces in one container and the analog pieces in the other. Pieces can be laminated for extra durability if desired.

Telling Time Puzzle Center

Once the center is set up, have students match the digital and analog clock pieces together! We like to allow the student to try and complete the center on their own and check their work before they put back the pieces for the next student. Having model clocks in the center helps connect the printed images to real-life objects. Old alarm clocks are great examples… and usually are only a few bucks at your local thrift store!

Time to the Hour Optional Assessment

If you want to extend student learning and assess what they know, we have included a simple cut and paste assessment page. Students will cut out the digital clocks and paste them under the correct analog clock. Now you have a clear way of seeing if they understand the concept of telling time to the hour!
