Reindeer Holiday Activities {FREE}
The holiday season is in full swing and because of that it’s the perfect time of year for some reindeer holiday activities! Our students love learning about animals, so we created these fun reindeer printables to share with you. We try and incorporate animals into our curriculum whenever possible since we know engagement goes way up when it involves them. Reindeer are not only a symbol of Christmas because they help pull Santa’s sleigh, but also an animal that thrives in cold winter conditions. As you study more about these furry friends, use the following activities that we know your kiddos will love!
Reindeer Holiday Activities: Getting Started
These reindeer holiday activities are so easy to use with your students and require practically no-prep on your end! Just print and make sure you have the items listed below to help your students complete each activity.
- Reindeer printables (included in the download)
- scissors
- glue sticks
- pencils
- crayons
- markers
- optional: dot markers
Parts of a Reindeer
Reindeer live in the Arctic tundra and cool, damp forests. Places like Greenland, Russia, Alaska, Scandinavia and Canada are all homes to reindeer! Since reindeer spend up to 40% of their lives in the snow, they have developed special adaptations to help them survive chilly temperatures. For example, their hooves are divided into two parts which helps them spread their weight and stand on soft snow ground. Their noses have tiny veins that circulate warm blood and heat the air as they breathe it in! These are great little facts to share with your kids as they work on the “Parts of a Reindeer” labeling activity. For this activity, students will cut and paste the word to the correct box. They can also color the reindeer when they have finished labeling!
Rainbow Reindeer
Need an activity that helps children practice their sight words? Rainbow Reindeer is the perfect answer! This printable consists of several simple sentences. The focus word phrase is “I see a” followed by different color words. First, students will read the sentence. Then, they will color the little reindeer head to match the color word in that sentence. For an extra challenge, you can have early finishers draw a reindeer on the back of the paper and use all the colors in the sentences to design their own rainbow reindeer!
“R” is for Reindeer
This alphabet printable focuses on the letter “Rr”. To start, have your little ones find and circle all the letter R’ s in the box. Remind them that they are finding both the uppercase AND lowercase letter! You can also have them use dot markers when finding the letters. Because dot markers are always a hit, we love having them available as an option for students. Next, students will trace and write the upper and lowercase “Rr”. Finally, they will trace and write the word “reindeer”. We find that there can never be enough printing practice at this stage! Writing neatly is such an important skill.
9 Little Reindeer
Since Santa has 9 reindeer, let’s learn all about the number 9! This math activity is a great way to review or even introduce the number 9 to your students. To begin, they will trace and write the number nine in both number and word form. Next, they will show 9 on a tens frame by making little circles. Then, they will draw 9 tally marks. Remind your students that tally marks are grouped in sets of five. Lastly, have your kiddos color the 9 reindeer at the bottom of the page–BONUS: they get to learn the names of Santa’s Reindeer!
Magic Reindeer Food Holiday Activity
Your students will be so excited to make a bag of magical reindeer food! This is perfect to do right before they leave for winter break. It also wraps up the reindeer activities very nicely. We have included FREE tags to attach to the top of the bag with a cute poem that explains the purpose of the magical reindeer food. For those that celebrate Christmas, it is a fun tradition to sprinkle the magic food on their lawn or it can be left in a small bowl outside. Santa gets his cookies, while the reindeer get this special treat! We listed some ingredients that we like to use but feel free to use any ingredients you have on hand. You can add things like cinnamon or even glitter!
Reindeer holiday activity materials:
