Digital Memory Book: FREE End of Year Activity
We can’t believe it’s that time of year again! The school year is winding down and the end of the year activities are in full swing! Send your students off for the summer and on to the next grade with a digital memory book to look back on all their special memories. Now, we know this school year has been unlike any other, with so many of us navigating more technology and online learning than ever before. Many of our traditional end of the year activities need some major modifications! Use this DIGITAL memory book to help capture the memories that are important to your students using Google Slides™. All you need to have is a Google™ account in order to access and edit the books. We’ve included easy to follow, step-by-step instructions when you download this FREE activity.
Student Activity: Creating Their Memory book
This digital activity was created with early elementary students in mind. We made sure that adding text and pictures would be easy for your little learners. Many students are already using various online learning tools which makes personalizing their memory books pretty simple. The first page prompts them to insert their name and school year. There is an entire “This is Me” section where they can insert their picture, information about themselves, and click and drag a balloon to match their age! They can also share their favorite things, describe a memorable lesson, and show off some of the work they are most proud of. Just look at how cute these pages look filled out!
A Time for Reflection…
Our digital memory book is the perfect way to get students to reflect on the past while looking towards their future. There are pages designed to have them write about their funniest moment and summer plans. Students can also take a closer look at themselves and how much they’ve changed throughout the school year. It is always impressive to read what students are most proud about when it comes to how much they have grown. To help ease fears and anxieties about leaving their current grade, they can type about what they are looking forward to next school year. This helps them think about their future in a truly optimistic way. Taking time to reflect on all of these things really makes this end of the year activity memorable. It can help create dialogue in your classroom community that is meaningful and allows students to express their emotions.
Tips to Keep in Mind:
- Trust us when we say that when these books are completed, your students will want to share what’s inside with their classmates and family members! They can easily share their memory book using PRESENT mode to create a fun slideshow.
- Encourage students to get creative with these pages by adding pictures, web images, word art, and even digital stickers!
- Delete any slides you do not wish to have your students complete before assigning the activities. You can have total control over how long or short you want these memory books to be.
- The final two pages of the memory book are left blank so that students can add pictures of their friends, field trips, spirit days or a class picture. Allow them to get as creative as they want and choose additional memories that they don’t want to forget about!
- The digital memory book can be viewed by families directly on their child’s Google Drive™ account. You can also share the link by clicking “File” and “Share”.
Memory Book Print Version
Ok, so this came out just too adorable and now you have parents who want a print version! There will be families that can’t imagine something this cute only being available to view on their Google Drive™. No worries, these memory books can be printed out directly from Google Slides™ and made into a traditional hard copy format. Simply click on “File” and select “Print”. Add construction paper or cardstock to the front and back cover for durability, hole punch and add twine or ribbon to bind the book. Super easy!
We hope your students LOVE these memory books and feel proud of what they are able to create with all their technology skills. Happy end of another school year!
